Remembrance of A Kind Lady

* I write this poem to remember a volunteer lady in the charity bookshop I am working. She was incredibly kind and helpful, smiling to people all the time. I am impressed by the warmth she brought to everyone, although I have only talked to her a few times. But I heard the very sad and surprising news that she had chosen to end her life. All memory about her keeps popping up in my mind. May she rest in peace in heaven.

Sunny day.

It was your face, with rosy skin, tiny wrinkles, and a permanent bright smile.

Letting kindness and warmth shine into the rooms, and people’s hearts.

It was your voice, gentle, clear, steady, reassuring.

Telling fascinating stories, talking to strangers with much patience and affinity.

Rainy day.

It was your bright yellow coat and helmet, together with a modern bicycle.

Standing out in the crowd, gradually disappearing into the misty street.

It was your figure, finding me unexpectedly at the bookshop door.

Such hurried, but still expressing your willingness to help as much as possible.

These days.

It is a big sadness, the world has lost you, shockingly, unpredictably.

You have chosen to leave, only leaving your smile and goodwill behind.

People in the rooms will never confuse your name.

Heaven will have an exceedingly kind lady.

One more bright star will appear in the sky.

Where you rest, beautiful flowers will bloom, permanently.
